Simple Ways To Stay Hydrated This Summer And Beyond

Woman sitting on a couch drinking from a mug

I know, I know. Water is boring. This seems to be the general consensus when I talk to people about how much water they drink daily. They don’t like the taste of plain water. I guess I’m just used to it. My main form of hydration has been water for at least 20 years. When I was younger, I struggled with UTIs, and couldn’t pinpoint the reason. In an effort to figure out what was going on, removing soda from my diet and drinking more water was one of the things I tried, and it just stuck. I’ll have a soda a couple of times a year, but for me, it’s mainly just water although I have a couple of additions to my liquid consumption that helps break up the monotony. There are multiple ways to stay hydrated throughout the day, and here are a few that help me out daily.

Fresh lemons cut and lying on cutting board.

I have 8 ounces of green tea with a splash of lemon daily. I like the antioxidants it provides, and I enjoy the taste. You can have it warm or cold, but warm is my preference because it also helps me when I take my vitamins. I try to have my green tea before noon because it has been recommended due to the caffeine, and I know it can potentially affect my sleep at night. Thank you perimenopause insomnia.

Bag of jujube fruit

I recently added jujube and goji berry tea to my routine. Again, it has those good vitamins like vitamin C, and it’s nice and light without all the extra calories. You can add a little sweetener to it, but I don’t find it necessary, and I like to keep my sugar low to nonexistent when it comes to the drinks I consume. Grab the jujube fruit at your local Asian market or order online.

Four flavors of water enhancers being held

A simple water enhancer is another way to spice up your hydration routine. I recently tried the water enhancer from Plants By People and I enjoyed it. It’s low in sugar, has really light flavors and ultimately doesn’t leave me feeling like I’ve missed something by not having juice or soda. It travels well, and I was able to bring it along and mix up a drink very quickly on my recent trip to hang out near Lake Michigan.

Last but not least, we can not leave out fruit. Now, I know you’re not “drinking” fruit, but it’s another natural and wholesome way to get in some hydration. Fruit like watermelon and strawberries have a high water content. So, maybe adding this into your routine will make staying hydrated a little less boring for you.

These simple ways of hydrating give you a little change during the course of your day, without adding too much in the form of empty calories. They’re also good for you, and are another way to get in some flavor as well as some vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. How are you staying hydrated this season?

Great tips! Thanks for all of the suggestions. I’d like to try the jujube and goji berry tea sometime.
