Chateau Bourbon: A Charming Bed and Breakfast Near Louisville, Kentucky

The journey to experiencing as many bed and breakfasts as possible brought me to the lovely city of Louisville, Kentucky. I had only ever driven through Louisville on my way to other destinations, but considering it's only about four hours from home, I'm disappointed it took me so long to finally visit.
I first heard about the Chateau Bourbon bed and breakfast from a friend on Instagram several years ago. The moment I looked it up, it landed on my travel wish list, and I was thrilled when I finally had the opportunity to stay there.
The Château Bourbon bed and breakfast is actually located about 20 minutes outside Louisville in Prospect, Kentucky. It's nestled in a quiet area that feels both residential and conveniently close to the city. Driving into downtown Louisville each day was quick and easy, making the location a good perk of the property.
As soon as you arrive, you're welcomed by a charming exterior with white siding, dark accents, oversized lanterns, and a cozy front sitting area. The home has an inviting, elegant feel that immediately makes you want to step inside.
Our host greeted us warmly and escorted us to our room. Throughout the home, there were thoughtful touches that made the stay feel extra special. A welcome sign in the foyer displayed our names, and a handwritten note beside the bed acknowledged our visit and special occasion.
We were also treated to a delicious shortcake dessert and one of the house's signature drinks. Although we checked in after the evening dessert hour, our host thoughtfully saved some for us. It was such a kind gesture and a wonderful way to begin our stay.
For this visit, I chose the Single Barrel Suite. It was spacious and beautifully appointed with a comfortable king-size bed, a bathroom featuring a relaxing soaking tub with an average-sized shower, and a small sitting area perfect for unwinding.
A nice feature of the room was the private balcony with a table and chairs. Since the property was especially quiet during our stay, spending the evenings outside was the perfect way to relax after exploring Louisville.
Breakfast was one of the highlights of our stay. Nearly everything that could be infused with bourbon was, and every bite was absolutely delicious.
Each morning, a menu was displayed so guests could see what was being served. Even though I'm normally not a fan of cherries, the yogurt topped with drunken cherries completely changed my mind. It was fantastic.
The bourbon blueberry waffles with bourbon maple syrup were incredible, and the banana French toast—also topped with bourbon maple syrup—had me wishing I had more.
Beautiful Spaces Throughout the Home
The rest of the home was just as impressive as our suite. Not only was it beautifully decorated, but it also smelled amazing from morning until night. The warm, welcoming scent throughout the house made it feel even more inviting.
There were several comfortable sitting areas inside, a lovely patio for relaxing outdoors, and a pantry stocked with complimentary snacks like popcorn and candy for guests to enjoy.
Since we happened to be the only guests during our stay, I was able to peek into the other rooms, and every one of them was charming. I honestly don't think you could make a bad choice. If I return, I will consider staying in The Reserve Suite. It's an excellent option for anyone who prefers to avoid stairs. Just keep in mind that it's located off the patio, so it may feel a little less private if other guests are spending time outside.
If you're planning a visit, be sure to spend some time exploring Louisville itself. I highly recommend visiting the Muhammad Ali Center, the Roots 101 African American Museum, and the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. Each offers fascinating history and a deeper appreciation for the city's culture.
For food, we enjoyed two fantastic local recommendations. One was Momma's Mustard, Pickles & BBQ, which had been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. The other was Lucretia's Kitchen, where I enjoyed some delicious soul food. Every bite was worth it.
I had also hoped to take a walking tour featuring Louisville's beautiful Victorian homes, but unfortunately it was canceled due to low participation.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Château Bourbon bed and breakfast. Between the warm hospitality, thoughtful personal touches, beautifully designed home, incredible bourbon-inspired breakfasts, and convenient location near Louisville, it delivered exactly the relaxing getaway I was hoping for.
