I can't believe it's almost the end of 2023, and we're approaching the holidays again. Some years seem to drag along slowly while others feel like they fly by. As I'm gearing up for the holiday season, there’s another reason, and a season I get excited for during this time of year. End of season shopping. I had to give you my favorite places to shop before the season hits so you can plan to grab and stash away those items you may have had your eye on at the beginning of the season but didn't want to pay full price for. Some places you might be familiar with, but some might be stores you never considered for such things.

At the end of Halloween,Thanksgiving and Christmas I check a lot of places. I usually start with the grocery stores because I'm in there weekly, and when the holiday ends you usually have to check places regularly to catch the markdowns they make. Walmart is obvious because they typically have good prices, and when they mark items down the discount is usually a very good one. I like to check here for my Christmas decorations. The downside is they usually sell out pretty fast, so you should check your local supermarket too. For me that would be Kroger, and after last Halloween the inventory was good, and the prices were even better. I told my sister about the markdowns I saw, and she snagged a six-foot witch for 75% off. She tucked it away, and guess what's standing tall and creeping folks out this year? So, remember some grocery stores are more than food.

Hobby Lobby is an amazing store on their own, but when the end of season clearance hits, they are freaking fabulous. Their holiday decor quickly jump to 80% off and the selection in my town is usually very good. What I also love about them is the fact you don't have to wait until the 80% off hits to get a good deal. Most times about a week or two before the holiday you will find clearance has already started and items are around 70% off. Last year I was able to grab some items for my Thanksgiving table during the first week of November, and when the holiday was over, I snatched up a few more things to use for this year.
Another great place to do your end of season holiday shopping is JoAnn Fabric store. Do not think of them as just fabric and sewing supplies because they are much more. This is another place I run to check out both before and after the holiday season. Just like Hobby Lobby, the clearance deals can start a couple of weeks before the holiday and just get better afterwards. I've grabbed beautiful ornaments, halloween decor and nice kitchen supplies.

My final stores you should consider stopping by during the end of season are drug stores. Places like CVS and Walgreens can be easily overlooked, but I have found pretty ornaments, and I snagged some tree lights for $3 one time that lasted me several years and some I still have. You might be a little surprised at all the holiday decor they have. I always check their clearance section in general, but I really enjoy it following the holidays. Try them at the end of summer too and see what goodies you can find.

Keep your eyes and your options open. I know we have our tried-and-true places, but if we consider some other places for your holiday decor shopping too, you might be surprised by all the great things you can find there as well. If you know me, you know I’m going to tell you to plan ahead and set a budget before you head out so you don't overdo it. It’s not a sale if you can’t afford it, but if you take the time to make a plan you can enjoy those end of season deals too. What’s your favorite store to shop at the end of the holidays?
