Summer Fun In Fort Wayne, Indiana

Mother and daughter taking a fun pic while enjoying summer in Fort Wayne

Who's ready for summer? I know I am, and even though the official start of summer hasn't arrived, we're in full summer mode now. School’s out, and it's time to plan what we're going to do. Now, I only have one child left in school, but we all enjoy doing things and hanging out in the summer. The great thing is the city we live in gives us plenty to keep us busy during the summer, and here's a small list.

We are a city of festivals during the summer. While the season has already kicked off with Busker Fest, (which was so cool) there is more to come. You can experience different cultures at events like Arab Fest, Greekfest, and Germanfest, and there's plenty of great food to be enjoyed at Ribfest. These festivals offer a fun and enriching experience for everyone. They start this month, so mark your calendars now. A great resource for dates and times is visitfortwayne.com

July brings one of our largest and most popular events, the Three Rivers Festival. My family and I usually go every year. There are rides for all ages, vendors for fun shopping, artistic displays and events for inspiration, and the must visit Junk Food Alley. Trust me, you're gonna want to check it out. Also, about a 25-minute drive away is another cool event my family and I had the pleasure of attending for the first time last year. St. Joe Pickle Festival. We had never heard of it, but we were intrigued, and we were pleasantly surprised. It's a smaller event, but if pickles are your jam, then they have all kinds of pickles for you to try and purchase. I bought the candied pickles. Delicious! Oh yeah, there's also pickle flavored ice cream to try, but I wasn't that brave last year.

Listen, the festivals will absolutely keep you busy, but outside of the festivals there's other places to visit and enjoy. You can take a trip to the lovely Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, you can catch a Tin Caps game or hang out and enjoy one of the beautiful parks, like Promenade or Lawton skate park. I could go on, but the best thing is for you to check it out for yourself, and let me know what your favorite thing was to do in Fort Wayne this summer.
