Here we are with another holiday season approaching fast. With less than two weeks to finish prepping and planning for our main event, one of the last things you may even consider is the outfit. I'm typically the host for our family Thanksgiving which means things kick into high gear very quickly around here. I have already set the menu, made appointments for things to be cleaned, and handed out assignments to everyone so they know what they'll be responsible for. Now, I can take a moment to consider what I'll wear that day. If you know me, you know I like to have options, but I don't like to spend a lot of money.
Some people like to keep it casual, while others prefer a more semi formal or even formal style. My personal preference is a mix between a little dressy and casual. I call it my “casually cute” look. I think it's a look that’s easy to achieve, and it doesn't have to cost a bunch of money. This year my approach is super easy because I'm shopping my closet. Since I shop at the end of season much of the time, I have several pieces I'm able to wear that I purchased last season and haven't worn yet. Also, I always try to have some good basic pieces as well as some staples that never go out of style on hand. During the cooler months items like a pair of black jeans, a simple long sleeve tee in black and white, a nice boot in black and brown are the kinds of items that tend to remain in my closet year after year. Items like these make being able to pull something together easy and it doesn’t require too much effort.
A couple of weeks ago while shopping at one of my favorite stores, I saw they were carrying coated denim jeans again. If you recall, an item that ended up on my favorites list last year was the coated jeans I found at JCPenney for under $30. They looked good, fit great, and were at a price point that I couldn't pass up. Well, this year when they came back, they had a color I fell in love with, and the price was right so I purchased them. I realized these were the item I wanted to plan my holiday look around, and I got to work thinking about what I already had that I could style with them. By pulling several items from my closet like a white button down, a cream sweater vest, and the coziest sweater, I had a couple of good options and now all I must do is make a final decision. The colors are neutral, which makes swapping things around with the pants easy. Ultimately, the weather may be the deciding factor since we never know how cold or how warm it may be during that time, but at least I have some options.
Although the star of the outfit for me will be the pants, I know there are more options I can create and choose from because I keep good basics on hand that give me room to work. The best part for me in all of this is the $20 price tag, and I think I have achieved my “casually cute” look for the day. Now, I can focus on being the hostess with the mostest this holiday. So tell me, what will you be wearing to the Thanksgiving dining room?
