Ok, let me first start by saying I actually like them both, but of course I think each one has it's pros and cons. One thing is for sure, they've both been having a moment for a few years now, and they're likely not going anywhere anytime soon. They're both nice for this time of year, although I think I can wear my coated denim more seasons because they don't make me hot like the faux leather can. So, let's break down these two popular pieces down a little, so you can determine which one or both you should have in your closet.
If you like the look of leather pants, then you should definitely think about grabbing a pair of both, and I promise they don't have to cost an arm and a leg. I grabbed my first pair of faux leather leggings a couple years ago, and they did not disappoint. I'm sure you're probably familiar with the popular brand that people rave about. If you've been around for a while, you know I'm not spending $100 on a pair of leggings. Fortunately, about a year ago I had the opportunity to try them at half the price during a sale at Nordstrom's. They were nice, but not quite what I was looking for. They felt more like a workout legging, and I was looking for ones that looked more like pants.
I found more of what I was looking for in a faux leather legging from American Eagle, and I grabbed them for less than fifty bucks. They fit well, they feel good, and they look good. I think the trickiest part is getting them on (but I kind of expected that) but once they're on I have no problems. In the past, I've had faux leather leggings that constantly slid down on me, and that ruined the whole experience. I was happy that these leggings looked like leather unlike that popular brand I purchased that resembled a piece of workout gear. You can find these types of leggings in so many places. I've heard people speak well of similar ones from Walmart, and their price is budget friendly as well.
Of the two styles, coated denim are the ones I probably wear the most. They have the look of leather but they're less shiny than the faux leather. But my favorite part must be the simple fact they are pants! There's a zipper and pockets which makes me happy, and they fit me well and comfortably. No pulling and tugging required. I found some at JCPenney that I have been wearing for the past couple of years. The price is very reasonable, and they have a couple of color options. I'm a tall girl so if you're tall like me, these are going to hit you at the ankles, but if you are more on the petite side you will get a little more length. These are a good place to start to give them a try and determine if they fit your personal style. Now, if you prefer the look that faux leather gives you might have to consider grabbing a pair of actual faux leather pants instead of leggings because coated denim is a little softer in its appearance than faux leather.
I don't think you can go wrong with coated denim or faux leather leggings. In fact, you may want to consider adding one of each to your closet with such affordable prices. Just be sure you try a couple of options to find what feels and fits best for you. They come in different colors, and you can dress them up or down. Each one can be styled so nicely for your New Year's event, or the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday. Just grab your favorite sweater or blouse and add your sexy heels or boots and you're on your way. Do you have a pair of faux leather leggings or coated denim already in your closet?
