Where to Find Affordable Special Occasion Dresses for All Your Summer Events and Parties

I can't believe it's been 30 years! It has been 30 years since I graduated high school, and I'm headed to my high school reunion. I likely would have attended before now, but life just has a way of taking over. I remember planning to attend my 10-year reunion, but my mother was ill and dying, so that idea just fell by the wayside. I don't even remember being aware of the 20-year mark which was likely because I was deep in the trenches of motherhood.

Well, here we are 30 years later, and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to attend even though I'm a little nervous. I have pleasant memories of high school, but there's still a tiny bit of anxiety trying to get to me. Nevertheless, I set out to prepare myself for this event, and the first thing on the agenda was finding something to wear.

The dress attire is semiformal, which I think will be fun to get a little jazzy for the event. I grabbed some info online, and some of the prices were a bit high, like almost $200 for a dress. Before I committed to anything, I decided to try one of my favorite department stores, and they did not disappoint. I have purchased dresses from here for attending a wedding, attending a graduation, and even a homecoming dress for my daughter, and each time I have been more than happy.

I searched their selection online, and I narrowed it down to four dresses. Well, one dress I knew would be for another time because it was long sleeves, but the price was irresistible, so I wasn't opposed to keeping it in my closet for later. I enjoy a one shoulder moment, and the first dress gave what I needed it to. The fit to my body was nice, and the ruching around the stomach was forgiving. Because of the lining on the inside, I think you could or could not wear a bra, depending on how busty you are. I love the navy color, but I was also apprehensive because I would have liked a lighter color for the season. If that doesn't bother you, just add some light-colored heels and go for it. This dress was made even better by the $35 price tag.

This sequins dress I saw online had me going back and forth about ordering it. Sometimes, you just can't tell with online pictures, but I was intrigued, so I ordered it. When I tried it on, I was a fan. The fit was nice, the split was a little sexy without being too much, and the sparkle was so good. It made me feel like a million bucks, but that also ended up being my issue with the dress. I needed a semi formal style, and this was definitely meant for a more formal event, like a Young & The Restless gala or a Real Housewives reunion (you can see what I like to watch😂) I really wish I had somewhere to wear it.

Dress number three caught my eye immediately online. It reminded me of the inspo I saw on Pinterest, but without the higher price tag. The champagne color was gorgeous, the fit was excellent (extra points for the double lining) the ruching was flattering, and it had accents in all the right places.

Finally, the last dress was the one I figured I couldn't use right now, but if the right event popped up, this would be the one. Since it was black it could be used anytime. It was a little on the shorter side, but I felt comfortable when I tried it on, so the length didn't scare me. The only drawback was it was a little roomier in the back than I would have preferred, but if you're a little more fortunate in that area than I am, the fit would be great. For $20 this dress was a steal whether I used it now or later.

In the end, I found something that is going to be fabulous for the night, and I'm excited that it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Their selection of special occasion dresses in general is absolutely worth taking a look at. Whether it's a simple summer dress, a wedding guest dress or a formal event you need to shop for, definitely take a look here. So, which dress do you think I chose for the reunion?
